We are taking all this WAY too seriously. LOL 99% of us have small yard gardens - not You Tube trending acres of beauty. For me, Home Depot has about the same germination rate as Baker's (Rare Seed). I go after variety, service and cost. Migardener is fantastic on all three. Baker is also very good but for that matter so are the other big ones. But the companies have raised their prices tremendously the past two years (Johnny's, Burpees, etc) which, if you are going to order just a few does not matter.

i wonder is using starch like some people do with jeans would make it stiffer. that might be something to look into and try and then might eliminate having to have a soaking fabric on your hardwood, not that it will ruin your floors but there is a chance it could so jsut an idea really. no idea if this will help but maybe

I never care about egg shell color. The only birds I raise are Coturnix quails, which are very quiet and can lay a lot of nutritious and delicious eggs with a lot less feed and space. They're more like pets to me. And they produce very high quality fertilizer for my vegetable garden.

I’ve been using this method in the run but what do you do when it rains a lot and is just soaked for days? Or in the summer (I’m in Phx) it’s so hot that I have to run a mister for a few hours making it wet again. Do I add even more shavings to soak up the moisture?

I have been using Starlink in the Yukon with roaming up and down the highway in the bush wherever set it up and bang your connectected . I couldn’t be happier , down to a flip phone and starlink it has been great and getting better

I know this is an older video but great information! My favorites are eastereggers as well! I love the earmuffs! I just got some Black Copper Marans so excited to get some dark eggs. You are spot on regarding Americauna and Eastereggers. Some stores will sell eastereggers as Americana (missing the U). They are just eastereggers though. If they are a true Americauna they will lay a light blue egg, not green, not olive.

The paler colour can come from blanching your celery. bundling them with string as they mature restricts light to the center stalks and gives it a light colour and flavour I think.

I heard a story when I was young, that someone trained their chicken to kill and eat rats. Until now I still don't know if it was a real story.

Great advice! We even used cloth diapers when our 3 boys were babies(includes 1set of twins). Clotheslines were worth their weight in gold! I am one of seven kids. We grew up eating left-overs! Many things like soup or stew taste better the next day, anyway! My parents survived not only the Great Depression, but WW2 as well. Both while in Europe! My dad taught us to try and repair everything before writing it off and scrapping it. He taught us to scavenge anything from it that might be useful, first. I needed a new bicycle. He taught me to build one from other scrapped bikes. Did it look great? Nope. Did anyone else swipe it? The way it looked was way too identifiable. The point was to learn how to fix my own bike for little or no money. I still do these things and have saved thousands of dollars on many items I have repaired over 50+ years. Mum taught us to fix zippers, put patches on trousers so they looked okay, polish shoes to protect the leather for longer life, preserve food; the list goes on... Smart scavenging may gain a bunch of what others would identify as junk. Just because they don't understand the reasoning, you might be accused of being a pack rat. They call that a hoarder nowadays. Hoarders keep all manner of useless stuff. Scavenging is selective gathering of used, but useful stuff. They will gripe when they pay lots for parts for equipment, I pay little to nothing. The difference is, I don't care about what it may look like as long as the item works safely. A coat of paint can often fix the esthetics. Fixing stuff, preserving food for the lean times (this includes winter, of course!) may take a bunch of time, but the skills and knowledge you gain and can share keeps your mind sharp and the body strong as you age. is there enough pressure in this system to carry water up a slight incline, say to a raised bed that is up a little higher than others in the yard?
